BLOOMS
Growth is not delicate.
We tend to think of flowers as fragile things.
Pretty. Temporary. Easily damaged.
There is some truth in that, but it misses the larger story.
A flower is the visible end of an enormous amount of work.
Before anything blooms, there is soil.
There are roots.
There is water moving through tissue and minerals moving through the ground.
There is sunlight being converted into energy.
There are seasons of dormancy and growth.
There are relationships with insects, birds, fungi, weather and everything else occupying the same small piece of ground.
Then, eventually, something opens.
We notice the flower.
We usually don't notice everything that made it possible.
That is where BLOOMS began.
Not with the flower itself, but with everything happening underneath it.
A bloom is an announcement.
Something has survived long enough to reproduce.
Something has gathered enough energy to spend it on color, scent, shape and attraction.
And flowers are not decorating the world for us.
They are communicating.
Their colors, structures and scents evolved within complicated relationships with pollinators and the surrounding environment.
The beauty is real.
So is the function.
That combination is what interested me.
BLOOMS is about the visible expression of a living process.
The part we notice.
The part that makes us stop.
But also the reminder that every visible thing has a history beneath it.
A flower does not simply appear.
It comes from somewhere.
It belongs somewhere.
It depends upon something.
And eventually, it becomes something else.
The bloom fades.
The petals fall.
Seeds form.
The plant returns material to the soil.
The cycle continues.
There is nothing particularly sentimental about it.
It is simply how life works.
Growth, reproduction, decline, renewal.
Again.
And again.
And again.
That is what I wanted the BLOOMS collection to carry.
Not the idea that nature is delicate and decorative.
The opposite.
Nature is persistent.
It is opportunistic.
It is stubborn.
It will grow through cracks in concrete, push roots beneath foundations and emerge from places nobody bothered to make room for it.
A flower is soft because it can afford to be.
Underneath it is an entire system refusing to stop.
BLOOMS is a collection about that moment when all of that hidden work finally becomes visible.
The moment something opens.
The moment we notice.
The moment growth becomes impossible to ignore.
